Alpine Homes called today and informed me once again that they would not fix the code violation relating to the combustion air vent. They stated that they have a document signed by the city here in Utah that says the home is to code and they will do nothing. Even though the manufacturer clearly states the correct way to install the vent and they didn't adhere to the requirements. If the city inspects something and misses a code violation does that mean the code violation doesn't exist?
The Alpine Homes' representative Jake Hone told me that it is my responsibility now to make sure the furnace gets sufficient combustion air. What? The home owner? Shouldn't the person that installed it be liable? I don't know how these people live with themselves. It is NOT a sensible request to ask the home owner to make sure the furnace and hot water heater have sufficient airflow! They don't have any mention of this requirement in their list of items that a home owner is required to maintain. As a result of Alpine Homes not repairing this code violation I have to monitor the area around the vent during the winter. That doesn't seem fair.
